PNC-Cage-Rig

We've had great success reaching out to the community for some suggested names with our last product launch - The Komodo Dolly. If you haven't seen the Dolly, you can check it out along with a current contest (ends June 30th) to win one of 16 prizes here: http://cheesycam.com/new-pc-komodo-skater-table-dolly-contest-to-win/.

This time we have another product soon to be released that will be available at PhotographyandCinema.com. This will be our basic and very affordable video accessory cage, designed to hold your camera and provide several new mounting points to add accessories like an LED light, LCD monitor, Audio Recorders, and more. It's slightly wider than most camera bodies so that you can shoot handheld (Spacing your hands away from the camera adds stability).

For handles, we're using something similar to our custom P&C Pistol Grip Molds. Right now it looks low in the photo (above), which would be perfect for GH2, Sony NEX type cameras, and even a full Canon DSLR. If you want to add a quick release baseplate inside, there's small adapters that you can add to adjust the height.

So we're on the home stretch with one of our Basic Video Accessory Cages, and we need another name. Soon after the name pick, we can finish the final manufacturing and have these available to ship in the next few weeks. So,here's another small and simple contest, and to the winner we'll be giving away one of these cages if we choose your suggested name pick. All you have to do is leave a comment with what you think we should call this. I'm hoping to have a name chosen and comments will be closed by the end of the weekend. Thanks guys!

[Update] Comments Closed. We'll be choosing a Winning Name soon. Thanks for the participation.

Nitsan writes in and shares his YouTube Review for the Fancier 270 Bowl Mount Tripod. I haven't used this particular tripod, but he seems to have good things to say about the Counterbalance feature, Sturdy set of legs, padded bag, etc. Keep in mind you're looking for the 270A version for the higher quality metal legs. On eBay, they can run upwards of $220 dollars, but there is one USA seller who offers it at $159 via eBay (click here).

Jack shares a find in the comments about this GeChic 13" Portable LCD that can be used as a secondary screen for your laptop. [Thanks Jack]. Ok, so this is mainly a DSLR Video blog - there's more to this product.

The 13" screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 (about HD resolution), but the real kicker is that it can be powered via simple USB 5V and has the option for HDMI input that can be used with Video cameras (your DSLR camera). This solves several problems for those who want to tote around a decently sized monitor around with HD resolution for remote monitoring. While the video above gives a different price, it's currently $168. Check it out on NewEgg.com (here).

Looking for the most simplest way to mount a Rode VideoMic, LED Light, and Zoom H1 to your camera - all at one time? There's nothing more simple than this Triple Hotshoe Accessory Bracket. Under the bracket's mount is a 1/4-20 thread so you can also use this on a lightstand. Great for stacking several small LED lights to a single stand for a larger light source.

Even the basic Vello Triple bracket can run for about $30 bucks (seen here), but right now this other Triple Bracket has recently been reduced in price to about $12 dollars and ships free for Amazon Prime members too check it out (Click Here).

A few months ago I posted a little contest to give this new dolly a name, so Congratulations to Kerry Garvey of https://www.kerrygarvey.ca for helping us out with that. We decided to go with the suggested name 'Komodo Dolly' [Thanks Kerry]. We'll be shipping one of the first units out to Kerry for the win.

The Pico Dolly from PhotographyandCinema.com is a very versatile unit, but some have expressed interest for a slightly larger table dolly. The new Komodo Dolly is not only a bit larger than the Pico, but it also has a unique adjusting baseplate design that allows for a more compact tracking position and added several mounting options for accessories.

    Wondlan-Vest Stabilizer

If you have had to shoot with a stabilizer for more than 3 minutes straight, you're probably already looking into a Support Vest. The problem is finding a good affordable Support Vest and Stabilizer Kit. I personally won't put my money down on the Flycam Stabilizer Vests. I went for the Steadicam Merlin vest at $1600 dollars, but you'll still be shy of a good Glidecam stabilizer that can run another $400+.

Recently Wondlan has been pushing a bunch of new Single Arm Stabilizer Vest + Stabilizer Kits. These lightweight kits vary in price starting under just $1K depending on what stabilizer is bundled with the vest. Wondlan has a Mini Handheld stabilizer, Carbon Fiber Stabilizer, or larger I-Type. Not too shabby for hopefully the same quality that Wondlan has provided in their past equipment, but I'm still trying to dig up some official reviews on this new gear. Check out the various kits via eBay (Click Here).

There was an interesting article posted on this blog a few weeks ago about using a Motorola Lapdock as a DIY external HDMI display for your DSLR camera. There's a bunch of comments about how to go about doing this here: http://cheesycam.com/lapdock-as-hdmi-monitor/

Currently these Lapdocks are running for about $80 dollars on Amazon (seen here), but if you were curious and wanted to grab one at a better price, today 1saleaday has listed them for $59.99 via eBay (Click Here).

Geek Post. If you follow this blog, you'll find that I collect lots of random Canon and Nikon Replica Lens Mugs. Some for myself and some I keep around for last minute gift ideas to other geek friends. I mainly use it as Pen Holders on my desk. Some of these Replica lens Mugs / Thermos are designed to scale with very accurate details.

The latest replica lens mugs (actually thermos) is two new Nikon 70-200mm. As far as I know, there isn't a good Canon Thermos like these Nikon versions. Both versions have a Stainless Steel insert, and one is designed with it's own plastic cup that's actually part of the Nikon Thermos Lens Replica. The other Replica Lens Thermos looks like it has some very accurate detailing of the Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8G.

Sony Battery Tray Rig DSLR VideoCatClaw Sony DSLR Rig Battery Power Adapter Canon
    find-price-button Sony NPF-970 Battery Power Supply 5V, 7V, 12V

Thanks to a tweet from m0fe, he points out this alternative Sony Battery tray for powering up your DSLR rig with Sony NPF style batteries [Thanks m0fe]. They have a V-Mount power supply similar to this, but even cheap V-mount batteries are just out of most budgets. This tray accepts two Sony NPF970 Batteries (seen here) (but you can also use little NPF-550s) to power up fairly standard DSLR rig accessories.

The pack offers an output of 5V (for Zoom H4n), a 7V output (for powering Canon cameras), and a 12V output (for powering LCD monitors), and then clamps to a standard set of 15mm rails. The kit comes with all the necessary cables and even comes with a Canon LP-E6 dummy battery to start shooting. If you're an event shooter that needs to be fed constant power, this is one of the most affordable off the shelf solutions to power up your rig. Check it out via eBay (Click Here).
