Here's a simple DIY way to add an HDMI Cable Pinch to one of those Gini Panasonic GH2 Video Cages [Thanks Asa]. You could use this same technique on any of the other cages offered by Gini, and I just noticed that Gini is also offering a specific cage for the Canon 5D Mark III if you need all of those mounting points. Check out the Gini gear on eBay (Click Here).

The Sony RX100 produces great video quality, and performs well in low lit situations, so I was recommending this camera to a Real Estate agent looking to perform low budget YouTube Virtual Tours. Unfortunately, it's widest focal length is approximately 28mm (not the greatest). I got to thinking, and decided to test out the new Carry Speed MagFilter Threaded Ring Adapter. The MagFilter Adapter will allow you to attach your own filters to point and shoot cameras, and here I'm using the RX100 with a cheap 52mm Wide Angle Lens Adapter.

To make walk throughs even more stable, I balanced with the Skyler Minicam.

Discount on eBay's Daily Deal today lists the Canon 5D Mark III + Canon 24-105mm F/4L IS lens combo - New, USA Warranty. Elsewhere right now this same combination will run you about $500 dollars more as seen over at B&H (here). It's basically like getting a Free lens which you could always try to sell it and further discount your 5DM3 purchase. [Update] I guess they got in trouble, because the price has jumped up another $400 bucks. It was just $3599. Really missed out on this one.

Check it out via eBay (Click Here).

Rokinon Fisheye HD Optics 8mm

Rokinon has updated their popular 8mm Fisheye lens to include better optics and now a removable lens hood. I recall some people needed to shave down the old version depending on the camera they were trying to fit it with. This will give you 180 degree viewing angle on APS-C sensor sized cameras. Although it can be mounted on Full Frame cameras like the 5D the image will not fill the entire frame. You can already find the Rokinon 8mm F/3.5 Fisheye lens available via B&H (click here) and also via eBay (Click Here)

Maybe this just adds a bit more confusion or maybe it makes it easier on the wallet, but JuicedLink has added 4 additional preamps to it's lineup. The new models vary with number of XLR inputs, with or without Phantom Power, and some with or without Assist features like Headphone monitoring or visible audio meters. Some cameras already have Headphone monitoring and Audio Meters available like the new Nikon D600, so you'll just be looking to get a smaller less expensive JL Preamp. Check them out at the Juicedlink website (Click Here).

View Finder GH2 Video

The new Carry Speed VF-3 LCD View Finder does not sit low enough to be used on a camera like the GH2, so the solution would be to raise the camera. Here Scott writes in and shares his DIY mod using two Sima quick release adapters to get the viewfinder to somewhat fit on the GH2 camera [Thanks Scott]. It's a very close fit, but keep in mind it was never originally designed to work with the GH2 camera.

This DIY solution to raise the camera is basically the same technique I used to mount the Carry Speed VF-3 to my Sony RX100 (seen here) and also used the same method to mount to a Sony NEX-7. For those that aren't familiar with the Carry Speed VF-3, here's a great product review from HDSLRNOW.com.

Proaim Rectopole

Here's an interesting new tool from Proaim. The Proaim Rectopole is a Carbon Fiber telescoping pole that can reach 14' high, comes with a motorized pan / tilt head, Remote with SD monitor, and a 12' long Dolly Track. In photography terms this is often called Low Aerial Pole, or Mast Pole Aerial Photography typically used for Real Estate or anything that benefits from a birds eye view.

The RectoPole can be used in sections if you plan to work at lower heights and looks to include a guying kit (tie down wires) for extra stability on the mast. For those in Real Estate who want to step up their game, or those who plan to shoot their kids next sporting event out on the baseball field, or you can check out the new Proaim RectoPole Telescoping Mast via eBay (Click Here).

It won't give you you the same stabilization and precision as a motorized system on a track dolly, but for my Aerial shots, I use a simple painters pole and a Palo Alto Adapter (seen here).

Still haven't had time to go out to shoot with the new Nikon D600, but I was curious as to how the ISO noise would perform. I did a quick test compared to the Canon 5D Mark III which really sets the bar for ISO noise in DSLR cameras, and it's something I use everyday. There's not a doubt that Nikon has brought out an incredible and affordable Full Frame camera to market for still photographers, but many people are finding that the D600 falls short on a few video features.

I won't say the lack of these features make it a bad camera, but it might be missing just enough to make you want to jump over to the Nikon D800. More on that later, but for now here's a quick out of box ISO noise comparison.
