P&C GearBox – GB-1 GB-2 Inventory Update

The new P&C GearBox was designed to hold your camera body and allow several mounting points for video accessories. I've used a couple GearBoxes over the weekend and just enjoy handling the camera with it mounted inside. I think once you try it out, you'll understand. Some of you have already received the new GearBox, and for those who were interested, currently it's listed out of stock. I have some good news that more inventory should arrive in a couple of days.

Along with the new inventory will also be the new Rod Adapters that fit under the GearBox. The basic GearBox itself will now be listed as the GearBox GB-1, and if you purchase the kit with the Rod Adapters, that will be listed as the GearBox GB-2. For those who already have the GearBox, you will be able to purchase the Rod Adapters separately as an upgrade kit, and it's still Free Shipping in the USA.

    OK . . . still trying to find a place to buy a lousy screw to hold the camera on the bracket. A standard 1/4 x 20 just tightens up to the bracket. Anything smaller that will slide isn't big enough for the camera socket. I followed your advice and went to Home Depot and we went through 26 e-pages of specialty screws and found nothing. Amazon only had correctly threaded screws with large plastic heads that,when used would protrude at least 1/4" below the bracket. I know these things exist for I have other pieces of equipment that have similar attachments. It would seem that an item like this would be included with the cage but so be it. Just please let me know how to get one of these things. Thank you.

    @Michael - Currently the price of GB1 cage + GBR rod kit are the same as purchasing a GB2 kit. Paypal does not accept pre-order payments and would not be possible.

    @Sophek Tounn - Yes they are the same. The GB1 (without rods) can fit the GBR (rod kit) if you want to upgrade later.

    So let me get this right, the only difference between GB1 vs GB2 is that GB2 has the rails? The cage is exactly the same right?

    I received my cage. Has 2 issues:

    1. One of the handles is missing the 3 small screws that hold then together
    2. The hex bolts are too long. When removed the extension pieces, they seem to drive and pry the handle plastic apart when screw them in.

    I've emailed them, hopefully they can address this issue.

    @matthew

    Hopefully they will come out with an adapter that allows you to secure the cage to the hot shoe of the camera

    After using the GearBox for a couple days I wish it allowed for two screws to be locked into the quick release. Getting everything perfectly aligned and then having your camera torque out of position is a downer. There must have been a reason not to implement anti-twisting into the design. Perhaps, I'm missing something.

    Another minor thing I noticed is that the top plate slopes slightly forward. This poses no issue for myself. I can only see it being an issue if someone plans to mount a level there.

    Overall, I'm still very pleased with the GearBox. One of the best values for camera gear. Granted, most camera gear is waaaayyyy over priced.

    @getem - The simplest way is to use those friction arms. If you pick up some 1/4-20 bolts you can mount a small ball head, or hotshot adapter.

    Thanx Emm! I'm hoping to use it with the SnapFocus when it gets here 😉
    And here's hoping the new inventory gets here before my vacation on saturday, cause I'm guessing the introductory pricing will not be in effect when I get back two weeks later,... is there any way to reserve a set?

    @Emm

    Just got it today and feels great, I love it. Quick question though.

    How is it that I mount accessories such as lights, monitor on the top? Also the tripod plate?

    Thanks

    The Gearbox was dropped off yesterday and I am using it on a shoot today. Great build and feels solid. Thanks Emm and P & C. Great and affordable cage,

    @Ramon - The 5D + Grip won't fit with a QR adapter. Depending on the follow focus you are using, it could reach even if the camera is on a QR adapter. If the FF doesn't reach, you can always get larger Follow Focus rings like these: httpss://cheesycam.com/cinematics-follow-focus-lens-gears/

    Awesome! One question though. If I use the batterygrip on my 5D Mark II AND a quickreleaseplate. Will a follow focus on the rods lineup? They seem to be made for a specific height. What if I skip the batterygrip, and just use a quickrelease plate,... will it line up?

  14. Received my cage on Friday and really like it. Question: I have a Calumet QR I'd like to put inside the cage and a Manfrotto 501 QR I'd like to attach to the bottom, what anti-twist measures would you suggest? Thx, -kerry

  15. I got my cage today. It looks and feels pretty good. The only drawback that I could think of is that with the handles as sides you can't mount anything to the sides, in case you wanted to do that. Now if only I had something to mount them on my rig with! Sooo, Emm, can you ask your peeps there to sell the rail blocks according to the order that the cage was bought, wouldn't you say that's fair?

  16. Ryan

    I just received my gearbox in the mail today. That sucker is solid! Excellent build quality and amazing price. Thanks, Emm! Definitely going to order the rods!

    @Sqweezy - The Swiss Rods have a larger diameter in the middle and could obstruct when sliding the Rod Adapter system into a fluid head. I have used it vertically though to add more mounting options.

  18. Sqweezy

    Hmmm... why not provide a kit with a Swiss Rod-combo for the rails? Otherwise, looking pretty darn good!
