The Fuji X100 has been a very successful camera, and they've followed up with a smaller version called the X10. The X10 is all the buzz right now for the Fuji lineup. If you haven't been keeping up on the X10, this new 2/3" sensor sized 12MP camera has a zoom range from 24-112mm F/2.0-F/2.8. That's pretty amazing specs. To compare the latest Canon S100 (which I just bought) has a 1/1.7" sensor size and zoom range from 24-120mm F/2.0-F/5.9. The camera also offers a hot shoe if you want to expand with a larger external flash.

So far B&H shows out of stock, Amazon is still accepting pre-orders, and eBay has some as high as double the asking price. I've seen one auction going for $200 dollars above MSRP (and people have paid that price). Poking around the web a bit more, I happened to see BestBuy Online showing the X10 in stock in their warehouse and ships in 1 day. Doesn't say it's available in stores, but the warehouse shows ready to ship. Might be worth looking in to if you've been eyeballing this camera. Find it following the link (click here)

If you've been planning to pick up the EVENT rig from Express35.com (old video review above), and wanted to add in an extra handle there's a deal going on. Varavon shows it's latest Loupe EX Solo View Finder on a Canon 60D. The Loupe EX Supporter (metal bracket) was designed to work on swivel LCD cameras such as the GH2, 60D, T3i. Without the Supporter bracket, the new Loupe EX can be mounted on cameras using a metal frame at the tripod mount. The Supporter bracket is not yet available through B&H, but the Loupe EX Solo are already available (click here).

Current off the shelf HDMI port savers a.k.a. HDMI Locks for DSLR cameras are quite expensive. Here, Vimeo member Kenrik March shares a simple method to lock down your HDMI cable. The simple clamp will prevent your cable from being shifted left/right/up/down/forward/back. The use of clamps and spud may not line up perfectly with every HDMI output port on every camera, but it's a good starting idea on how you could go about making your own and refining the process. I was actually working on my own version which uses a 15mm OD Collar around an HDMI cable. Once the collar is placed onto the cable, the collar then sits inside a 15mm 90 degree clamp. The clamp obviously can be adjusted to fit any camera in the world, but you'll need a set of rods to use this technique.

Developing story about Canon's latest Video Camera over at the Engadget live blog here: https://www.engadget.com/2011/11/03/the-canon-hollywood-event-liveblog/. From the internet they approx $16,000 $20,000 dollars and available starting January 2012.

And even before the conference is over, Zacuto is already showing it on a basic shooter.

Red also announced their Scarlet which throws out some awesome specs in a sub $10K camera. There's pricing on a kit around $13K-$14K. Scarlet-X has a 2/3 an S35 sensor capable of 5k stills and 4K video at 25fps. Lower resolution to 3K enabled 48fps, 2K @ 60fps, and at 1K 120fps. The Red Scarlet is said to begin shipping in just a few weeks. Sounds fairly inexpensive for such a camera, but don't forget the SSD media you'll need to shoot with. Those alone can quickly bring the price of shooting up several thousands of dollars. One good point about Canon's C300 is that the dual CF card slots can be used to have a real time backup of your footage on uber cheap media. How much is that worth to some people?

While RED has made it's very impressive announcement, Canon still has another 4K concept DSLR body waiting to be unveiled. A mystery DSLR that is sporting the Cinema badge. Engadget writes - promised to be "ideally suited for cinematographic and other digital high-resolution production applications". Should be shooting at full 4K resolution @ 24p. The current 1DX is already sporting dual CF slots also, so i'm thinking the latest Cxxx DSLR will have the same. Seeing how they announced the 1Dx at about $7K and the new C300 at about $20K, my guess this mystery DSLR will fall somewhere around the $10K mark.

With all the hype surrounding today's announcements in Hollywood, the availability of the Canon Powershot S100 was overshadowed. These cameras are wiped out of stock from B&H Photo very quickly, and there's one on Amazon going for a higher marked up price. Checking over on eBay there's a few more listings, also some marked up prices. There is of course one New York camera store offering it for the MSRP price tag, and is also throwing in a 20 piece kit of random goodies like SDHC cards, Card Readers, Camera strap, etc.

I'm already dead set on this camera since playing with the previous Canon S95 and have already placed my order (ready to replace my GF1). I anticipate this camera will be out of stock before the weekend, unless you're willing to pay above MSRP prices. Check out the seller (click here).

DSLR Cage

The rumors are true. I've heard through the grapevine that a cheaper DSLR cage would be made before the year ended. This appears to be that cage. [Thanks Serge]. This particular cage works mainly on Canon DSLR cameras giving access to the card slot and battery door. Not tall enough to support a battery grip.

It's a fair option to add a bracket around your camera to help mount additional accessories, but i'm a bit sketchy on the way the seperate parts are mated together. Doesn't look like the best method to use when joining two parts that thin - dare I say 'flimsy'? I personally think the starting price is also too high, especially when you could get a better stabilizer out of the Alzo cage found here: http://cheesycam.com/alzo-dslr-accessory-cage/.

We'll have to wait to hear more and see some reviews, but this particular new Canon DSLR cage can already be found via eBay (click here).
