Here's an overview of the new F&V K4000 LED Studio Light Panels along with a few samples at the end showing how it compares to a common ARRI 650W Fresnel. The unique offset filter mount on the K4000s allow better diffusion and eliminates multi-shadow issues that are common with LED lights.

Available in daylight and bi-color models. The new K4000 Daylight Studio Panel light sports 400 pure color power LEDs, offering 2860 Lux @ 1 meter in a self-contained 1'x1' unit. The K4000 LED panels are also available in Bi-Color for adjustable color temperature from 3200K-5600K. Individually these lights are more expensive than the common 600, 900, or 1200 LED panels but the 3 Piece Studio Kit (found here) that includes a nice travel bag brings them down to about $330/each. These light stands fold in such a way that make them super compact down to about 19", but can still be extended to a max height of 7' feet. If you're not a fan of checking in your equipment at the airlines, these stands can actually fit into a Pelican 1510 Roller Airline Carry On sized Roller making it perfect for traveling.

These stands can also operate at a much lower height than traditional light stands when you need to mount some type of kicker or bounce. Manfrotto has a 5001B version that sells for close to $50 dollars/each (found here on Amazon).

A slightly cheaper alternative folding light stand can also be found on eBay. I purchased a set of these a while back for $39 US/each (found here on eBay).

Last week I received one from F&V which has better build quality than my previous eBay stands, and there is a 10% discount deal if you add (3) F&V stands to your cart. If you're on the move and want to travel as compact as possible, I highly suggest looking into these type of stands.

Peter writes in and shares a find on a strange new LED video light [Thanks Peter]. The DL-DV1300 Video light works on 6 high power LEDs and claims it has the same output as a typical 300 LED video light. This new DL-DV1300 video light is dimmable, comes with a typical diffuser, tungsten colored filter, and powers from the common Sony NPF battery type (charger and battery included). A web search shows the DV1300 LED light listing in retail stores for over $130, but here they are available for just over $50 dollars via eBay (Click Here).

TIP: Don't forget that you can create a nice broad light source with LED lights, following this little tip about triple hotshoe adapters seen in this article:

Here are a few great still photo examples with the 18" Diva Ring Light in use from YouTube member Lorenzo Pickett. From what I understand the only lights used were two (DIY) 4ft. CFL banks on each side and the 18" Diva Ring Light placed center. Towards the end of the video he shows some great examples captured by this simple lighting setup. [Thanks Lorenzo]

The catch lights in the 18" Diva Ring Light are effective because of the large diameter and distance to the subject. This can be used for Video as well. Smaller ring lights will only be seen as a small dot. Here's another great video example of this Diva Ring Light in use shared through the comments from Eliu Cornielle.

Here's another very interesting BTS video showing how the Diva Ring light was used by Badmash Factory Productions [thanks seem]

The new version of the 18" Diva Ring lights are now dimmable as the earlier models had only a simple ON/OFF switch. The new Diva Ring Light kit comes with a 5,600K Lamp (daylight), 3,200K Lamp (tungsten balance), AC Power Cord, and a Padded Carry Case. You can find more image samples, information, and kit prices for the 18" Diva Ring Lightvia eBay (Click Here).

I'm not sure how many of you shoot with Yongnuo LED Video lights, but Carl Pendle of writes in and shares a find [Thanks Carl]. Recently Yongnuo has just released the YN-300 a much larger 300 LED on-camera light with an IR remote for dimming. You can see by the images how large it is to scale with a DSLR. There are a few specs that claim it can auto adjust brightness, and has been designed to prevent flickering after long use. These light panels are listed for just over $70 dollars + Free Shipping and you can find them now via eBay (Click Here)

Finally, the F&V R-300 (LED Ring Light), K4000, and K4000S 1x1 LED Light Panels are ready to ship! I personally have placed a pre-order for (3) of the R-300 LED Ring lights mainly for portability and the simple option of using inexpensive Sony batteries, and plan to use them mainly off-camera on light stands. I've been eagerly anticipating these lights since my pre-order, so excited to hear it's finally shipped.

The R-300 LED Ring Light is available in two different options, one with a 15mm Rod support and one with an L-Bracket Mount. According to F&V the 15mm rod support has been delayed in its transit, so customers will initially receive the ring light and then will be shipped the rail mount in about 2-3 weeks following. For all customers that have already pre-ordered the R300 w/ 15mm rod support, F&V plans to gift them the optional Milk Diffusion Filter for being patient and to show appreciation for their business. The R-300 LED Ring light can be found at the product page (Click Here)

The K-4000 and K400S 1X1 LED Video Lights are also available on the site. I've seen these lights at the last PhotoPlus NY show and was very impressed by the build quality and light output. You can purchase the lights individually, or check out the current specials for (3) 1x1 LED Lights in a kit starting at just $1050 ($350/each). That's very competitive pricing even against more popular LED lights on the market. You can find the K-4000/K4000S light panels at the product page (Click Here).

Mike Peterson writes in and shares his opinion on those new LED video lights that are being sold online as 1000w LED Fresnels. So far there really hasn't been much complaint over the actual build quality, as they are using the same aluminum housings as the 'As Arri' light kits (seen here) with a high power LED inside. Others have already confirmed these are not equivalent to 1000w, nor is it an actual Fresnel light (no proper glass element), but Mike thinks it's still a great solution for a bright low power / low temp light source. [Thanks Mike]

With most artificial light sources there will often be a green color cast, but can be corrected with a minus green (magenta) filter. The benefit to LED lighting is the ability to plug several at any location without blowing out circuit breakers and generating too much heat in the environment. You can also use low temp colored Gels (cheaper stuff) over the LED lights without the worry of it melting. Something you really need to think about if you're trying to use a few hot Tungsten or Halogen type lights. You can find this exact lighting kit, and other LED Fresnels via eBay (click here).

Tekkeon Battery on 900 LED Video Light

I use the Tekkeon batteries to power up my 600 or 900 LED Video light panels. Great for remote location shoots where an outlet isn't available, cheaper than a Sony V-Mount battery, but Tekkeon batteries can still be a little expensive (article here).

ATC Power Bank on 600 LED Video Lights

TRIX writes in and shares an optional (and cheaper) solution for a DIY battery pack using the ATC Power Bank Black Mobile Pack (found here) to power up a couple of the new style 600 LED video lights [Thanks TRIX].

These Li-Polymer battery packs can switch output voltage from DC 12V/16V//19V 60W, USB 5V/1200mAh. For either the 600 or 900 LED light, you can use the 12V or 16V option. From the tests TRIX states the 600 LED Video light panels can run for a little more than an hour at Full Power. Perfect for quick remote location shoots and at half the price of my Tekkeon batteries.

The ATC Power Bank Mobile Pack comes with a few different adapters, but does not have the correct cable to work directly with the LED Video lights. You'll need to get a separate cable that has a 2.5mm ID & 5.5mm OD barrel plug on each end (one for LED and one for ATC pack). An example of the exact cable you'll need can be found on eBay (Click Here).

Just posted up an article about using three LED Video lights on a single shoe adapter, and Herb shares a link to an LED-5080 video light [Thanks Herb]. This dimmable light uses a few high power LED bulbs, comes with barndoors, built in diffuser and tungsten filter, powered on Sony Batteries (comes with battery and charger), and has optional DC input for external power source. This light has been around for a few months, and i'm curious if anyone has experience with this light? If so, comment below. You can find the LED-5080 all over on eBay (click here)
